Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know when it is time to come in for a checkup?
Twice a year is the recommended amount of time we believe patients should come in for a checkup. If you need more frequent visits, we'll let you know. Checkups are crucial because many oral health problems can be stealthy, and you won’t even notice that you have a problem. We will know what to look for and can prevent any issues before they become large problems. Oral cancer can often go undetected, and we can make sure to look for this. We'll also make sure your gums are healthy and strong.
Do I have to floss every day? Is it really that important?
Yes! Flossing loosens food particles, plaque, and tartar trapped between teeth, something crucial in your quest for optimal oral health. In addition to irritating gums, causing gum disease, and promoting cavities, these three culprits cause bad breath. Our dental hygienists teach you and your children the best and most effective ways of flossing during any of your regularly scheduled checkups.
What is an implant and how long do they last?
Implant restorations are a safe alternative to bridges, partials, or full dentures. Because of a titanium anchor that is attached to the jawbone, they look and feel like natural teeth. Once the implants are secured, Dr. deJong or Dr. Plaisance attach a handcrafted, permanent crown to each post. The restorations will blend completely with your smile, allowing you to get that extra boost of confidence only a glowing smile can give. The life of the implant depends on your age, oral health status, and personal hygiene. With proper maintenance, dental implants last most patients a lifetime.
Will you care for my entire family?
Absolutely. We enjoy creating gorgeous, healthy smiles for patients of any age. As your full-service family dentist, we provide dental care for your entire family including the children. We often see patients through their entire lives, from childhood well to adulthood. This allows us to form long-lasting relationships with each of our patients, cementing our family-like atmosphere here at deJong, Plaisance and Bostick Family Dentistry.
